What to expect when you reach out.
If you’ve never called a crisis line, here’s what usually happens.
Someone picks up
Usually within a few minutes. Sometimes you wait — that doesn't mean you don't matter, it means a lot of people need support tonight.
They ask how you're doing
Not how to fix you. They listen first. You don't need to be "in crisis enough" — feeling overwhelmed counts.
You stay in control
You don't have to share your name or location. You can hang up any time. You can call back. Most lines won't trace your call without consent.
They help you make a plan
Not necessarily a big one. Sometimes the plan is "I'll drink some water, text my friend, and call back in 30 minutes." That counts.
This page doesn't track you.
